Trade has been in the news for all the wrongs reasons of late. For free-traders, though, there is also reason to celebrate: last Thursday leaders of the now 11-strong Trans-Pacific Partnership put pen to paper in Chile and launched the most ambitious trade agreement in recent years. A few signatories have already openly welcomed British membership and, subject to any new customs arrangement with the EU, Britain's application should go in as soon as that is legal.
