The results reported in the October 2018 bank lending survey (BLS) relate to changes observed during the third quarter of 2018 and expectations for the fourth quarter of 2018. The survey was conducted between 14 September and 1 October 2018. The response rate was 100%. In addition to results for the euro area as a whole, this report also contains results for the five largest euro area countries.1 A number of ad hoc questions were included in the October 2018 survey. These looked at the impact that the situation in financial markets was having on banks’ access to retail and wholesale funding, the impact of the ECB’s asset purchase programme and the impact of the ECB’s negative deposit facility rate.
