In the past month, the economic indicators deteriorated in the US. The government shutdown (closure of public services due to the failure to reach a budget agreement) did not help matters. Though the actual economic impact will at most be a few tenths of a percentage, the political impasse is taking its toll on sentiment. Accordingly, the latest US consumer confidence figures showed a sharp decline.
