With all the noise from Brexit and the US-China trade war, another topic no less important for investors has gone somewhat unnoticed recently: the new Securitization Regulation that went into effect on January 1, 2019. In the works since 2015, the regulation has created common rules and criteria for ‘simple, transparent and standardized’ (STS) securitization across the EU. It supports the European Commission’s aim to create a structurally robust European securitization market, increase lending to households and businesses, promote more cross-border investment, and more efficiently channel savings.
